This is another shot of the plains of Bagan in Myanmar, this time under the rising sun.
I had seen photos of Bagan for a number of year before visiting the place myself, and had dreamed of capturing photos like the ones I had seen. I went out each of the three mornings I was there, trying different locations, climbing the steps of different temples from which to view the awe inspiring breaking of the day over this very sacred place.
This photo was on my last morning. I found what was little more than a dirt foot path and trundled the rickety electric bike I had rented down it to a completely deserted temple. Generally, the best viewing locations will see a few dozen people congregate at both sunrise and sunset, so to have the place to myself was something special, and I'll remember that morning for a long time.
In the end, I never found the same angle or subject of the photos that had captivated me, but that's all right. This photo will hold a special place in my heart forever.
